# Q: How do I join VATCAR as a visiting controller?

Navigate to My VATCAR and select "Visiting Requests." You must meet the VATSIM Global Controller Administration Policy (GCAP) requirements, including maintaining appropriate activity levels at your home facility.

# Q: How long does it take to get approved for a transfer or visiting request?

Transfer and visiting requests are typically processed within 14 days. You will receive a notification on the website and via email (if you have email notifications enabled) once your request has been reviewed.

# Q: What is GCAP?

GCAP stands for Global Controller Administration Policy. It is VATSIM's official policy governing controller transfers, visiting, activity requirements, and facility management. You can read the full policy on the VATSIM website.

# Q: Where can I find sector files and airport charts?

Sector files and charts are typically provided by your facility. Contact your facility's staff or check your facility's page on the VATCAR website for download links.

# Q: What should I do if I fail an exam?

If you fail an exam, you will be automatically assigned a retake after the waiting period (typically 3 days). Your instructor may reassign the exam earlier if needed. Review the relevant CBT modules before retaking the exam.

# Q: I can't take the Entry Exam because it says I need to complete the Welcome to VATCAR CBT, but the CBT page shows no assignments.

This is a common issue for new members. The Entry Exam requires you to complete Block 1: WELCOME TO VATCAR in the VATCAR Academy (VCAC) CBT section. To resolve this:

  1. Go to My VATCAR > CBTs - Computer Based Training
  2. Use the dropdown menu at the top right to select VCAC (VATCAR Academy)
  3. Open Block 1: WELCOME TO VATCAR > General Information module
  4. Read through the module and keep it open for at least 2 minutes
  5. A green checkmark will appear once the module is marked complete
  6. After completing all required chapters in Block 1, you'll be able to take the Entry Exam

If you still cannot access the Entry Exam after completing Block 1, please submit a support ticket.

# Q: How can I suggest improvements or report errors in the documentation?

Submit a support ticket through My VATCAR. If you are unable to open a ticket, you can email the Information Systems Manager at j.swan@vatcar.net or reach out on Discord.

# Q: My VATSIM information is not updating on the website.

The website syncs with VATSIM's servers periodically. If your information hasn't updated after 48 hours, please submit a support ticket.

# Q: I'm not receiving email notifications.

Check your Email Preferences under My VATCAR to ensure you've subscribed to the notification categories you want to receive. Also check your spam folder.
